What Can Asbestos Services Do For You?
HSE Licensed Asbestos Services
Asbestos is a dangerous material present in some buildings that require professional asbestos services. If you even suspect that asbestos might be present, it is time to hire a licensed asbestos removal professional to help. Otherwise, you become liable if others are exposed to the potentially lethal material.
Why is Asbestos Dangerous?
Asbestos was used in building materials for many years before it was discovered to be the cause of very severe lung and other health issues. Disturbing asbestos even slightly causes tiny fibre particles to be released into the air. These fibres are not seen by the naked eye but are lethal when breathed into the body. The fibres embed themselves into the lungs and cannot be removed.
How is Asbestos Identified?
Because of the extreme danger of asbestos it was banned from use and the ‘Control of Asbestos Regulations’ was formed by the Health & Safety Executive in November of 2006. Because of this regulation, there are now licensed contractors available to identify asbestos.
Once you have called for a consultancy, an inspection will be performed.
What Happens Next?
Professional asbestos services starts with the inspection or survey of the building or structure in question. Sometimes asbestos imbedded in the structure or building material is easily identifiable; sometimes it is not. When there is a question, the licensed surveyor will take samples to be tested.
These contractors will be wearing protective gear and will provide safe removal of the testing samples. The samples have to be double wrapped in bags made of polythene. They also have to be labeled as possible asbestos. Some places samples may be removed from are the roof, the ceiling and floor tiles, certain gaskets or pipe work, among others.
The samples have to be transported in a registered and licensed waste carrier vehicle designed for hazardous material cargo. The samples must be taken to a licensed testing facility where they will be tested for the type and amount of asbestos present, if any. There is a fee per test.
Other Asbestos Services
If no asbestos is found, you will be informed within a few days and your building is registered as clear. If asbestos is found, it will have to be determined whether it is safe to leave the asbestos in place or if removal is the best option.
It is highly recommended that you contract an asbestos removal service to remove and dispose of any contaminated material in your building. This will have to be done to protect your employees and the environment. Otherwise there will be fines and you will be held liable for safety and health problems that arise.
The licensed asbestos removal contractor can remove any offensive material in the safest way possible and will provide a registered waste carrier to transport the ‘special waste’ to a licensed asbestos waste site.
The presence of asbestos is not to be taken lightly and is always best handled by licensed asbestos services.
